Participants said that this conference has inspired them to pursue Street Medical Initiatives during their gap years, make sure that the perspectives of people experiencing homelessness are incorporated into patients' medical care, and to "participate in [changing the healthcare system] as much as I can."
Other participants reported:
"I learned so much about how homelessness and healthcare intersect in my community. Coming into this with almost zero knowledge, I was really amazed by the initiatives already in place and being built currently. Super fascinating!"
"I gained a lot more from this experience than I was expecting to. I came in from Lipscomb university and I’m currently a freshman, so it has been so incredibly inspiring to see people from so many different walks of life and all the diverse ways in which each person has been able to affect some part of the homeless crisis."
"I was able to gain a lot of insight into healthcare surrounding the homeless population. This is an issue I became very interested in when I came to college, but never knew how I as a student could make a difference. I hoped to gain a sliver of insight into the battle for healthcare for homeless individuals and the additional inequities that homeless individuals encounter. From this conference, I was able to take away inspiration, knowledge, and the belief that I as a student could find ways to help homeless individuals."
