Mary Katherine Rand serves at the Executive Director of The Mary Parrish Center. For over 20 years Mary Katherine has dedicated her career to working with families and children that have experienced violence in their lives. Mary Katherine has served The Mary Parrish Center over the last 12 years in many roles, including Therapist, Director of Transitional Housing Program, and Associate Director. Prior to her time at The Mary Parrish Center, she served as an in-home therapist, providing therapy to families suffering the effects of complex traumas. Mary Katherine is a Licensed Advanced Practice Social Worker and holds a Master of Science in Social Work from University of Tennessee and a bachelor’s degree from Rhodes College. Mary Katherine has served as the board chair of Nashville’s Coalition to End Domestic Violence and has served on Nashville’s Homelessness Planning Council.
What would you like future physicians who are working with people experiencing homelessness to know?
Practicing trauma-informed care is crucial in working with survivors of interpersonal violence experiencing homelessness. Not only will it help aid in the services you provide as their physician, but the healing it will facilitate for their them could be life changing.
