Amanda M. Thomas has nearly 20 years of at-risk youth work experience. She currently oversees all minor crisis services at the Oasis Center, including the Emergency Shelter, which is Middle Tennessee’s only licensed shelter serving teens, ages 13-17, who are experiencing homelessness, running away from home, or other familial crises that prevent them from safely living with their parent/guardian. She formally managed the Outreach team during the YHDP Expansion and COVID Pandemic. She lives by the quote “Find A Way or Make One” and she finds joy in supporting her team as they move mountains for youth every day.
What would you like future physicians who are working with people experiencing homelessness to know?
Treatment and preventive care can be difficult to access for people who are experiencing homelessness. This is often because they lack insurance or have difficulty engaging health care providers in the community.
